Red Cells

November 15 @ Carpe Diem, Leeds

INSTEAD of a standard band picture on their MySpace page, Leeds band Red Cells have opted for a close-up of a guitar with its fretboard spattered with blood.

As a metaphor for singer and guitarist John Harvey and drummer Steve Picks's wholehearted commitment to the cause of rock 'n 'roll, it says a lot. But listen to the session tracks they recorded for Tom Robinson's Radio 6 show and you'll really get the measure of this duo.

Punky, snarling and spirited, they combine a fondness for the Stooges and the MC5 with some of the heavy guitar riffage of Led Zeppelin. In their quieter, more melodic moments they're also reminiscent of Primal Scream and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

On Saturday, November 15 they play at Carpe Diem. Also on the bill are Hurricane Sunday, The Instant Species and The Lapels. Tickets are available on the door.
