FIVE people were injured when a car being chased by police was involved in a crash in Leeds.

Two of the injured were freed by firefighters following the collision in Chapeltown Road, Chapeltown, at its junction with Harehills Avenue, near the site
of the former Hayfield pub.

A man was trapped in one vehicle, and a woman in the second. Firefighters worked with paramedics to free the two people.

Two men aged 35 and 20 were subsequently arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.

The Mercedes car failed to stop for road traffic officers on Neville Street in Leeds at 2.20am. It was pursued by police and at 2.25am the Mercedes was in collision with a VW Passat at the junction of Chapeltown Road and Harehills Avenue.

The 36-year-old male driver of the Passat and two passengers – a 25-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man – plus the 35-year-old male driver of the Mercedes and the 20-year-old male passenger were all taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening. Police said suspected class A drugs and cash were found in the Mercedes.
