Leeds United fans Carl Hicken and Ray Taylor have made a painful sporting sacrifice to grab a slice of big-screen fame.
Carl and Ray, both 26, auditioned for retro soccer movie The Damned Utd hoping to land parts as members of the legendary Leeds side of the 1970s.
But the pals, who work as data analysts for npower and come from Seacroft, ended up being cast as two
stars of the LIVERPOOL team of the same era.
They had to don the Merseyside club's famed red shirt for football action sequences shot at Leeds's Elland Road stadium and Chesterfield's Saltergate ground.
Today the pair jokingly said pulling on another team's colours had been "horrible" – but also admitted their experience of life as film extras could have been a lot worse.
Carl, who is playing full-back Alec Lindsay in the movie, said: "If they'd asked us to put Manchester United shirts on, I think we'd have told them where to go!
"It was a shame we didn't make it into the Leeds team – but we still had a great time."
Ray, who will appear as midfielder Peter Cormack, added: "It'll be fantastic to see the finished film. Making it was like stepping back in time."
Based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Yorkshire author David Peace, The Damned Utd tells the story of Brian Clough's disastrous 44-day reign as Leeds manager in 1974.
It recounts how he was sacked after failing to win over a dressing room still fiercely loyal to his predecessor, Don Revie.
Cloughie is being played by Michael Sheen, who starred as Tony Blair opposite Helen Mirren in The Queen.
Other cast members include Timothy Spall as Clough's sidekick Peter Taylor, Colm Meaney as Revie and Stephen Graham as Leeds captain Billy Bremner.
The £10m film is due for release next year.
