It's official: we're party central
New figures show our city is a mecca for stag and hen dos - more than any other regional capital in England.

Leaving so-called party cities like Newcastle and Manchester in the shade, we pull in thousands of punters every year, each spending thousands of pounds on big nights out.

The statistics, produced by www.hotels.com, also show that the average man or woman goes on around two last-days-of freedom shindigs every year and annually shells out a staggering £423.

Leeds is particularly popular with men with almost one in ten blokes coming here. Even European cities can't compete - we're a more popular destination than Paris, Rome or Madrid.

The ladies can't get enough either. Leeds is almost as popular as Las Vegas and Prague and in the UK it easily trumps Liverpool and Belfast.

The reason? The city boasts superb transport links thanks to the close proximity of the M62, A1 and the M1 and we sit at the hub of Britain's extensive rail network. This means we're no more than a few hours from most of England.

Plus we've retained a glowing reputation for our nightlife with everything from cutting edge clubs and cool bars to traditional pubs and lap dancing venues.

But crucially there are now hundreds of hotel rooms dotted around the city starting, some starting at the bargain price of £35 a night, but most budget providers charge little more than £50.

Hotels.com spokesperson Alison Couper said: "We're now travelling further afield than ever before for a friend's or relative's stag and hen parties, the annual amount we spend reflects this too. So inevitably new travel hotspots like Leeds are suddenly being put on the map as a result."
