It transformed a disused railway arch into a much-loved watering hole but after 13 years Cuban Heels has closed its doors.
Co-owner Dean Jackson said it was heartbreaking to say goodbye to what had once been such a successful business but landlords Network Rail had increased his rent to what he found an impossible level.

Around 25 staff have lost their jobs in the sudden closure.

Mr Jackson, who set up the business with friend Rob Dyson, said: "A massive population of Leeds and other places will know Cuban Heels and will be very shocked and surprised that it has gone."

It blazed a trail for other businesses to open up in what is now known as the Exchange Quarter of Leeds, home to a hub of restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

Cuban Heels started out in four arches and grew over the years until it occupied all seven railway arches along Assembly Street, incorporating Fudge bar.

A spokesman for Network Rail said it had already had offers from two potential new tenants for the units.
