AS a huge fan of Italian food, I feel a certain smugness to announce I have discovered the best pizza in Leeds.
Cue Brio Pizza in the Light where the food is absolutely divine.

Here you get a pizza which is loaded with tasty toppings and it literally hangs off the plate.

This has got to be the best pizza place in town.

It's not cheap but for pure self-indulgence it is divine.

In fact the pizzas are so big, we ended up eating them for both lunch and dinner after taking away the remainder.

Brio Pizza sits in the classy, bright shopping precinct The Light making it the perfect pitstop for lunch during a shopping trip or after a film at the nearby cinema.

We sat outside the restaurant where you can watch the world go by while chomping through slices.

We preferred this to the inside, which is slightly sparse in decor.

The service was prompt and friendly – perfect for those shoe-horning a trip into a one-hour lunch break. It was equally perfect for two hungry pizza lovers.

We went for an Antipasto Misto (£7.25) to start with which was a gorgeous, fresh selection of Italian meats, bread and olives. The dish is for two but, having experienced the pizza, I'd advise skipping any starter.

I went for a Gargantua (£10.95) which comes loaded with pepperoni style meats while my partner went for a Campagnola Bianca (£9.55) which is blue cheese, ham and artichoke. They were both delicious and well worth every penny.

Most pizzas are between £8 and £10 but definitely worth it. We only managed to get through half of ours but staff were more than happy to load the other half into a pizza box for us to take home.

The bases are fresh and light and the toppings extremely tasty.

The clientele was a real mix from businessmen to ladies who lunch to families all enjoying the large and varied range of pizzas, pastas and anti pastis.

It's all basic Italian stuff but appears to be lovingly prepared – and there is a lot of it.

It may not be the cheapest of places but it is well worth paying that bit extra to get first-rate food.

RATING: 4/5
