Little Oliver samples the food in one of the coolest corners of Leeds
IN many circles Chapel Allerton is no longer up-and-coming – it's arrived.

Every night of the week, revellers head out to the fashionable bars and restaurants in this north Leeds suburb and, as the name suggests, The Hub considers itself to be at the heart of this social hive.

The bar is owned by Arc Inspirations, the name behind many well-known Leeds venues, including The Box, The Arc and Trio in Headingley; and the link definitely shows, in terms of both the décor and the menu.

A large number of whicker chairs and tables can be found outside the bar, which allows for some great people-watching on Stainbeck Lane, while inside, dark lighting, hardwood floors and high-up leather booths give the bar a stylish feel, well suited to its location.

But for those with an eye for a bargain, there are plenty of offers which mean your pocket doesn't have to feel the pinch, including 2-4-1 gourmet burgers on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, while for those who like a drink, there is also a two-for-£6.50 Mojito offer every Wednesday.

We visited the bar early on a Monday evening and, although many of the tables were full, we managed to grab one of the sought-after booths.

Having studied the menu, which includes typical bar food like sandwiches my dining partner went for a chicken and bacon salad (£7.50), while I chose the BBQ burger (£7.50), somehow resisting the temptation to go 2-4-1 and eat them both.

My friend's salad was fairly sizeable and, although I don't usually eat salads when I go out (if you're paying for it, my view is you might as well enjoy it and go for the most calorific options on the menu) it looked delicious.

However, she said that while it tasted good, there was a bit too much onion and too much dressing for her liking, and she didn't finish it all.

But the burger was fantastic – and the fact they're all served on wooden boards, with the fries in a tiny metal bucket, adds a nice extra touch.

The bill came to £17.05, with a diet coke and lime and soda, which we felt was quite expensive considering we only had the one course.

But if we'd gone for the 2-4-1 option, it would have been much cheaper.

So for all those burger lovers, Mondays, Tuesdays or Fridays would be particularly good nights to visit The Hub.
